How to use Compress Image

  1. 1
Adjust your target compression level with the quality slider. The default 75% setting produces significant file reduction while maintaining crisp visual resolution.
  2. 2
Select or drop your JPG, PNG, or WebP images into the dropzone. You can add individual pictures or batch-process multiple assets simultaneously.
  3. 3
Review your exact before-and-after byte sizes in the processed results table, then click Download for single images or Download All as ZIP for the complete batch.

What it does — and what it doesn't

This tool performs client-side image compression using native HTML5 Canvas APIs, createImageBitmap decoding, and browser-level JPEG/WebP quantization encoders. When an image is selected, its uncompressed pixel array is drawn into a local canvas element and re-encoded at your selected quality factor. Unnecessary metadata and redundant high-frequency chroma information are removed directly in local device RAM. For large inputs, our integrated Canvas Guard calculates downscaling ratios to maintain canvas pixel dimensions below 16,777,216 total pixels, ensuring stability across mobile operating systems.

Limits and browser boundaries

  • Maximum canvas area: capped at 16,777,216 pixels (such as 4096×4096) to prevent mobile browser memory allocation failures on iOS Safari.
  • Batch input threshold: batches exceeding 150 MB trigger a memory caution notification to prevent mobile browser tab reload cycles.
  • Format behavior: animated GIF files and animated WebP containers are compressed to static single-frame images.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos ever uploaded to a remote server or cloud database?

No. Your images are never transmitted across the network. All decoding, compression, and file saving operations execute entirely within your browser tab. You can verify this in real time by opening your Developer Tools Network tab (F12) and observing that zero upload requests occur.

What reduction was verified in benchmark lab testing?

In our measured test lab suite recorded on 2026-10-10, a standard 1200×800 web fixture (sample-1200x800.png) measured at 128,523 bytes (125.5 KB) was compressed down to 74,035 bytes (72.3 KB), achieving a verified 42% file size reduction at 75% quality.

How does this tool handle 24 MP and 48 MP smartphone or DSLR photos?

High-resolution images like our 24 megapixel fixture (6000×4000 at 901,699 bytes) and 48 megapixel fixture (8000×6000 at 1,505,766 bytes) exceed the 16.7 million pixel limit of iOS Safari. The tool automatically downscales these ultra-high-resolution images into memory-safe dimensions prior to encoding, avoiding tab crashes.

How do I download multiple compressed images at once?

When you drop two or more images, a "Download All as ZIP" button appears beneath the processed results list. Clicking this button dynamically bundles your processed files using client-side ZIP generation without sending any files across the internet.

Does this compressor support transparent PNG backgrounds?

Yes. If you keep the output format as PNG or select WebP, alpha transparency channels are preserved. If you choose JPEG output, transparent sections are composited onto a clean white background.

Can I use this tool completely offline?

Yes. Once the web page is loaded, the application operates offline. You can disconnect your internet connection or turn on airplane mode, and image compression and ZIP exports will continue to function normally.
