What it does — and what it doesn't

Uses client-side PDF document parsing via the actively maintained @cantoo/pdf-lib engine. When you load a document, its object catalog, page cross-reference tables, and font streams are read into local browser memory. When extracting a range, only the requested page objects and their required font and vector dependencies are copied into a newly constructed PDF catalog. The extracted document is rendered into an in-memory Blob for instant saving.

Limits and browser boundaries

  • Password protection: encrypted and password-protected PDF files cannot be split without decryption and trigger an explicit, helpful error message.
  • Large document advisory: documents over 100 MB trigger an in-browser memory warning to safeguard mobile devices from memory termination.
  • Non-linear page ranges: entering page numbers higher than the document total page count displays immediate inline validation.

Frequently asked questions

Are my confidential documents uploaded to any remote server?

No. All PDF page parsing, copying, and file packaging take place entirely inside your local web browser. You can verify in your browser DevTools Network panel that zero document bytes or text content are ever uploaded to any server.

How do I specify multiple pages or non-continuous page ranges?

You can use standard comma and hyphen notation in the Extract Range field. For example, typing "1-3, 5" extracts the first three pages together with page five into a single combined document. The tool automatically validates all page numbers against your document total page count.

Can I split all pages in a PDF at once into separate files?

Yes. Select the "Split All Pages" mode. Every single page in your document will be separated into an individual PDF file (e.g. filename-page-1.pdf, filename-page-2.pdf) and bundled into a clean, uncompressed ZIP archive for instant one-click downloading.

What happens if my PDF document is encrypted or password-protected?

If an encrypted or password-protected PDF is dropped into the tool, an explicit error notice is immediately displayed explaining that the document is protected. For your privacy and security, password encryption must be removed before splitting.

What were the verified processing speed and file size measurements in the test lab?

In our verified test lab using a 4-page source PDF (981 bytes), extracting pages 1-2 produced a clean 2-page document of 780 bytes in just 12 milliseconds. Splitting all 4 pages into individual separate PDF files and packaging them into a ZIP archive (3,122 bytes) completed in 8 milliseconds with zero network requests.
